Breathe Applied Sciences, a JNCASR spin-out, develops carbon capture and conversion processes that turn carbon dioxide into fuels and chemicals using catalytic pathways.
Why They Matter
Carbon conversion is useful only if chemistry, energy input, and product markets line up. Breathe matters because it is an Indian attempt at the hard process layer rather than only offset accounting. The company needs to prove that its pathway can survive scale-up economics.

- NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE finalist in 2018 as the only Indian team, winning a $500,000 milestone prize
- MoU signed with JNCASR in June 2020 to scale CO2-to-methanol technology, with a 300 kg-per-day pilot commissioned
- TDB-DST National Award received in 2021 for carbon-recycling technology
- Named process technology partner in November 2024 for India's first CO2-to-green-methanol plant at Singareni Thermal Power Station, alongside Ohmium and JNCASR
